Since the forces line up and are in the same direction, we add them up as:

$\Sigma F = ma$

$1.0 N + 1.5 N = 2.0 kg \times a$

$a = \frac{2.5 N}{2.0 kg}$

$a = 1.25 ms^{-1}$
